Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) recently commented on the jury finding former President Donald Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll. According to The Washington Post, Rubio dismissed the case, stating, “The jury is a joke. The whole case is a joke.” Rubio’s controversial remarks sparked a wave of backlash on social media.
Rubio’s defense of Trump, calling the defamation finding a “joke,” set him apart from most of his colleagues and ignited a firestorm on social media platforms. Various users slammed Rubio for his comments, with some accusing him of lacking morals, honor, and integrity.
Fred Wellman, for instance, called out Rubio for quoting the Bible daily while simultaneously disregarding the unanimous findings of a jury. He argued that Rubio and Senator Lindsey Graham are not being blackmailed into supporting Trump; instead, they are simply “spineless worms” who prioritize power over morals and honor.
Historian Kevin M. Kruse expressed disappointment in Rubio, tweeting, “Our expectations for @marcorubio were low but…” while Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman, called Rubio’s remarks “despicable” and claimed they were the result of having “sold [his] soul.”
Actor John Cusack also chimed in, sarcastically stating that Rubio believes in “Trump’s historical p*ssy grabbing star rights!” Other users echoed these sentiments, criticizing Rubio and Graham for defending Trump and labeling them as “pathetic.”
One user, Charitie Hartsig, admitted to being surprised at the depths of her disdain for Rubio. At the same time, Mrs. Betty Bowers quipped, “Honestly, I can never lower my expectations fast enough to keep up with him.”
Rubio’s comments dismissing the jury’s decision in the Trump case have clearly struck a chord among many social media users, highlighting the ongoing divisions surrounding the former president and his actions.
